Welcome to my blog……..Windsurf, Surf, SUP or whatever the conditions allow…!

Having grown up sailing dinghies competitively, I started windsurfing in 2002 while at University in Plymouth as I couldn’t afford to run my boat, and still needed my water fix… ever since then I have been addicted! During my first University summer holiday I was invited on a windsurfing road trip around Europe in a friends Transit which got me totally hooked on travelling to new beaches windsurfing and meeting like minded people!

Every summer since then I have been lucky enough to get away into Europe in my own van and windsurf in some of the best spots Europe and Northern Africa offer.  To date i’ve done the trip south for 8 consecutive years in my trusty Surfari Van, covering about 50,000miles, living in the desert in Dakhla for months, getting nucked in Tarifa and getting some severe drillings in the guincho shore dump!

Having learn’t to windsurf in the South West, wave sailing was a top priority. I learnt to windsurf on St. Johns Lake (i still remember when i first got in the footstraps there….) and tried wave sailing at Bigbury but got fully smashed…so.I got a bit better by sailing on softer waves at Daymar Bay, then I could cope with the bigger spots. However, since finishing University and moving back home to Essex I had to focus most of my windsurfing on freestyle….and ever so often doing a ‘thorpy’ and driving the length of the country for a wave or a Kirby sesh!

In late 2008 I set up the Xpression series of freestyle events with John Palmer aiming at bringing all the UK’s top freestylers together to help us push the level of sailing even higher.  So far its been a huge success and helping to get loads of kids into the competition scene, we are looking forward to where it will take us next!  With the re introduction of the UKWA freestyle circuit along with Xpression we now have loads of potential for getting freestyle windsurfing competition to a  REALLY high level in the UK.

Now i’m living back in the southwest and have joined the 9 – 5 crew (well….7.30 til 3.45…),  freestyling loads and learning the waves…loving it!   My job allows me to surf, SUP or windsurf after work pretty much all year round, it rocks. Dealing with not being able to windsurf whenever I want because i’m at work is hard, but taught me to get involved with other sports when the weekends are not windy….I now spend a large proportion of my time in the UK SUP surfing …although not the same as my windsurfing buzz, they give me a fix almost as good!!

I love to compete on the UK circuit, it has a lot to offer, even if you don’t win.  It can allow you to focus on how to improve your sailing and you meet the people who RIP and they always give away their secrets.  This year I won the UKWA freestyle event in Worthing, against some top competition and placed well at the freestyle finals and the BWA wavesailing Cornwall event.

I’m passionate about developing better products for windsurfing and my other sports and am stoked to be working with the brands that are even more addicted to creating the best products  than me.  Check out my Sponsor page for details!
